Listen, I have a question for you! Have you ever wondered why we feel so good when walking in the forest, by the lake or simply in the garden? This silence, greenery, fresh air... It all makes us feel better, right? What if I told you that we could bring this blissful peace straight to our apartments? No moving out to the countryside, I promise!
Today we're going to talk about something called biophilic design. Sounds complicated? Nothing could be further from the truth! It's simply a way of arranging interiors to feel as close to nature as possible. The idea is to surround yourself with elements that remind us of green forests, babbling streams and warm sun. Because the truth is that we, people, simply need contact with nature to function well. It's even encoded in our DNA!
We spend more and more time confined to our four walls - work, home, duties... That is why it is so important that our home space is a real oasis of peace for us. And this is where biophilic design comes in handy! I guarantee you that being surrounded by greenery, natural materials and daylight can work wonders. It improves your mood, reduces stress (raise your hand who doesn't have it?!), and even affects the air quality and humidity in rooms. Seriously! It not only looks nice, but is simply good for us. Scientific research confirms this - we concentrate better, are more efficient and simply happier when nature is close to us.

Invite nature inside! Where to start?
Okay, let's get down to specifics! How to manage all this so that our apartment turns into a cozy, natural haven? Biophilic design is not only aesthetics, it is a whole philosophy of life that will simply make you feel better in your home. I will present you some proven ideas on what to pay attention to when arranging a space in this atmosphere.
Shapes and patterns straight from nature
Think about nature - is there anything perfectly straight and angular? Exactly! Trees, stones, leaves, clouds… everything has beautiful, organic shapes. And it should be the same at home! Instead of stiff, rectangular furniture, look for those with rounded edges. A round table, an armchair with soft lines... it immediately feels cozier, right? And patterns! Leaves, flowers, delicate waves - such motifs on pillows, curtains or wallpapers can really enliven the space and add lightness to it.

Light that creates atmosphere
This is probably one of the most important points! Access to natural light is essential. The more sun that enters your apartment, the better you feel there. And it really works! Try not to cover the windows with heavy, dark curtains. Choose light curtains, Roman blinds made of natural fabrics, or give up curtains altogether where possible. Let the sun come in freely! And in the evening? This is where lamps come in handy! But not just any kind. Think of the beautiful ones rattan lamps, jute or other materials made of natural materials. They provide warm, diffused light that creates an amazing, relaxing atmosphere.
Plants! So I'm green...
Okay, don't go without it! Plants are an absolute must-have in biophilic design. And not just for decoration! They really purify the air, produce oxygen and immediately make us feel better. Where to put them? Everywhere! On the floor, windowsills, shelves, hanging flower stands... Or maybe you have a free windowsill in the kitchen? Make a mini herb garden there! Fresh basil, mint, rosemary - they look beautiful, smell beautiful, and you always have them at hand. Such a green corner is pure pleasure!

The sound of water in the comfort of your home
Do you remember the soothing sound of a stream or the gentle splash of a fountain? We can also invite water into our interiors! No, I'm not talking about building a pool in the living room (although... who knows? 😉). But a small aquarium with colorful fish, a small, decorative table fountain or simply a bowl with floating candles and flowers - all this will introduce an element of relaxation and refreshment. The sound of flowing water has an incredibly calming effect on us. Checked!
Accessories that nature (and you!) will love
The devil is in the details, and in biophilic design - in natural accessories! Think about all the little things that make the interior "yours". Linen pillows, cotton rugs, ceramic vases, wooden bowls... Each such element brings warmth and authenticity. How about green coffee table? Or a lamp made of linen that gives such a pleasant, soft light? It works great on the floor jute rug or one made of sea grass - you can immediately feel this natural atmosphere under your feet! Have you ever seen lamps with a built-in flowerpot? This is a hit! Greenery can be literally everywhere, even under the ceiling.

Furniture with soul – rattan and wood
And finally, furniture! They largely define the style of the interior. In biophilic design, we focus on natural materials and unobtrusive, eye-pleasing shapes. What will be a hit?
- Rattan chairs – lightness, durability and that holiday vibe! Perfect for the dining room, reading corner or even the balcony. They match everything and immediately add some coolness to the interior.
- Rattan cabinets, shelves and racks – if you love rattan, you can go all the way! Cabinets made of this material are not only practical for storage, but also a beautiful decoration. They add warmth and eternal summer to the interior. Take a look at rattan furniture, there is plenty to choose from!
- Rattan table – small, handy, perfect for coffee with a friend or your favorite book. Such a detail, but it does the job!
- Rattan armchairs – oh, that's something! A comfortable, stylish rattan armchair is your new favorite place to relax. With a pillow and blanket… a dream!
- Green carpet – how about an accent of green on the floor? It will liven up any interior, add character and simply make it more cozy.
- Oak table – wood is a classic of the species, and oak is a symbol of durability and elegance. An oak coffee or dining table is a long-term investment that will bring warmth and timeless style to your home.
See? Biophilic design is nothing scary, but it can work wonders! It is actually an invitation of nature to our home to simply feel better, healthier and calmer there. Remember about natural materials, soft shapes, lots of light, greenery and, if you feel like it, a bit of water. All this together will create a real refuge for you. And most importantly – there are no hard and fast rules! It's your space, your nature, your ideas! Let your imagination run wild!

FAQ – Frequently asked questions
- Is biophilic design only for large apartments?
Absolutely not! You can even introduce this style in a studio apartment. Choose a few plants, natural accessories, bright colors and ensure access to light. Every, even the smallest, change is a plus! - Do I have to change everything at once?
Why! It's not a race. Start with small steps - buy a few new plants, replace textiles with those made of natural materials, think about better lighting. Slowly, wisely, and the results will surprise you! - Is it an expensive style?
Not necessarily! Of course, you can invest in expensive furniture, but you can also refresh the old ones, add a few cheap but impressive plants, use stones or branches found on a walk. What counts is the idea and natural materials, not the price.
