Wooden slats in the living room - the latest interior design trend | Bihome.pl

Where does this craze for slats come from?

Have you ever wondered how these inconspicuous, vertical slats suddenly took over our apartments? Until recently, we associated them mainly with modern offices, hotel lobbies and fashionable restaurants. And here you go - suddenly they entered the salons and with such a flourish! Honestly, this doesn't surprise me at all. When the slats settled in our private corners, they completely lost their former, raw character. They have become synonymous with coziness and warmth.

And it really works! These wooden slats do a fantastic job in the room. Apart from looking amazing, they also soundproof the wall and improve acoustics (no more unpleasant echoes!). And if you want to visually raise the ceiling, vertical lines will do it for you in the blink of an eye. Interestingly, the slats look great on the wall, but you can also hang them on the ceiling or use them as a finishing touch for furniture - both wooden and with metal elements. You are only limited by your imagination.

Light that creates atmosphere

Listen, when it comes to slats, proper lighting is absolutely essential. The living room is the heart of the house - every day we need strong ceiling light, but in the evening we dream of a cozy, intimate atmosphere. If you chose slats in darker shades, remember one important thing. Dark wood tends to "eat" the light. To avoid the cave effect, it is worth planning a few more light points.

The truth is that several hanging lamps installed at regular intervals will save the situation, especially on these long autumn and winter evenings. When you illuminate such a wall well, the dark slats will look extremely elegant, even exclusive. For example, large Cork hanging lamps fit perfectly into a modern living room. Their glass balloon shades are transparent, so they let in the maximum amount of light. What about the darkness that likes to hide in the nooks and crannies between the slats? Wall lamps or a table lamp placed on the console right next to it will do this perfectly. A brilliant choice will be the Ultra model with a round glass shade, which will perfectly match the hanging lighting.

What furniture will go well with slats?

Okay, let's get down to specifics - what to connect it all with? If your wall with lamellas has dark, brown or black tones, it is best to go ahead and choose furniture in a similar color. Natural wood and black metal are a perfect duo. In minimalist living rooms, but also in Japandi or Scandi climates, furniture should not only be practical, but also create a decoration in itself. Then unnecessary trinkets simply become unnecessary.

There are many ways to arrange slats. The most popular are, of course, classic vertical stripes. But if you want something crazier, you can choose mosaic lamellas that are arranged in circles or semi-circles. With such geometric patterns on the wall, it is worth choosing furniture that refers to this shape. The Nobu sideboard with a beautiful, rounded design will be perfect here!

To complete the whole and warm up the interior even more, throw a soft carpet on the floor. The round Tea model with a distinctive arch motif will be a hit. And now the best part - it's not a delicate rug that you're afraid to step on. It can be easily washed in a home washing machine! Just shake it out, throw it into the drum, add carpet cleaning agent and set the appropriate program. After spinning, you hang it on a string, it dries quickly and looks like new again. Cozy, clean and without ordering expensive cleaning services - a revelation for me.

Geometry that organizes space

Decorating a living room, where we spend a lot of time, can be quite a challenge. We want it to be both nice and comfortable, but sometimes it's difficult to reconcile them. If you feel that your living room is missing "that something", geometry comes to the rescue.

We can approach the topic in two ways. We can either go crazy with geometric wallpaper or patterns painted directly on the wall, or introduce these shapes in furniture and accessories. Just remember that geometric order feels best in an environment of simplicity. Scandinavian, minimalist style or the recently extremely fashionable Japanese style will be the perfect base for this.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

Will the slats on the wall overwhelm a small living room?
On the contrary! The vertical arrangement of slats acts as an optical lifting of the room - it "pulls" the wall up, making the ceiling seem higher than it actually is. In smaller rooms, however, it is worth choosing light shades of wood so as not to take up breathing space.

How to care for wall slats on a daily basis?
Don't worry, it's not difficult at all. For everyday use, a simple duster or a microfiber cloth is enough. For larger cleaning, a vacuum cleaner with a soft, brush tip is also great, as it can easily collect dust from the space between the slats.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How to choose the size of the carpet under the sofa in the living room? +

The carpet in the living room should be large enough so that at least the front legs of the sofa and armchairs rest on its edge. The most common and most proportional arrangement is to leave a minimum of 20-30 cm of carpet margin on both sides of the sofa.

Does a wool carpet become dusty after purchase? +

Yes, the phenomenon of dusting (loss of individual fibers) is a natural feature of new wool and cotton carpets. This is due to the shearing process of the wool during production. The dusting disappears after a few weeks of regular, gentle vacuuming without the use of turbo brushes.
