What Potted Flowers for a Dark Room? Species That Will Survive in the Shade

Plants bring life, greenery, and purify the air in interiors. But what to do when our apartment has a northern exposure or small windows? When wondering what potted flowers for a dark room to choose, you don’t have to opt for artificial counterparts at all.

There are many species that in nature grow in the undergrowth of tropical forests and cope perfectly well in conditions of limited access to the sun. Discover a list of ironclad plants that will survive almost anywhere.

ZZ Plant – a plant made of steel

When customers ask what potted flowers for a dark room are completely reliable, the first answer is always: ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas). This African plant with thick, shiny leaves is practically indestructible.

It perfectly tolerates deep shade, dry air, and irregular watering. The only thing that can kill it is an excess of water, which is why it is perfect for busy people.

Snake Plant (Sansevieria)

Sansevieria is another sure bet. Its upright, sword-like leaves fit perfectly into modern, Scandinavian interiors. Although it grows fastest in diffused light, in shaded corners it will simply slow down its growth, maintaining an intense leaf color and decorative appearance for years.

Golden Pothos – the king of climbers

If you are looking for a plant that will hang picturesquely from a high shelf, golden pothos (commonly often confused with scindapsus) is an ideal choice. It grows very fast, and its long shoots can be freely formed. In darker places, its leaves will simply become greener (they will lose golden discoloration), but the plant will grow equally healthy.

Peace Lily and Ferns

For fans of more delicate greenery, we recommend the peace lily, which with a bit of luck will produce beautiful, white inflorescences even in the shade. However, it requires higher air humidity. In turn, classic ferns are a proven way to achieve lush, dense greenery away from the burning rays of the sun.
