What accessories to choose for a minimalist kitchen and dining room? Bihome.pl

Minimalism in the kitchen – can it even be cozy?

Have you ever wondered why we are so drawn to minimalism? Listen, the answer is simpler than it seems. It's about peace of mind. Less stuff on the countertops means less dusting, faster cleaning and... more time for what we really like, for example culinary experiments or just lazy drinking coffee. Okay, but how to arrange such a space so that it doesn't smell like a laboratory? Especially when our kitchen is connected to the dining room. The devil is in the details, and in this case - in cleverly selected accessories.

A bit of Scandinavia, a bit of relaxation, i.e. scandi boho in a small apartment

The truth is that in apartment blocks we rarely have a large bathing room or a kitchen the size of a small playing field at our disposal. We often have to think about it. And this is where a brilliant mix comes in handy - the scandi boho style. It's such a charming combination of cool, Scandinavian simplicity with a cozy, slightly "grandma" boho atmosphere. How to do it in the kitchen?

First of all, choose lightness. Furniture on legs is an absolute hit - even a cabinet under the sink raised a few centimeters above the floor makes an incredible difference. The kitchen immediately catches its breath. What about the dishes? Instead of hiding everything in deep drawers, a glass sideboard or an elegant display cabinet is a great idea. Beautiful plates, cups and bowls displayed behind glass become decorations in themselves. And it really works! Then you don't need any unnecessary trinkets on top.

Clever ideas for a dining corner

Okay, but what to do when there is simply no room for a classic table with chairs? Don't worry, there are ways to do that too. A round Bistro table or the Maatje model will work great in a minimalist kitchen - they don't take up much space on the floor and look super stylish.

What if your space is a really extreme challenge? Consider a wall-mounted desk. Yes, you read that right! They can be mounted slightly higher and treated like a high bar counter. Add two stools and you have a great place for a quick breakfast or evening tea. After eating, you fold the tabletop and the space returns to a state of perfect order.

Light that creates atmosphere

Good lighting is basically half the success. In a kitchen combined with a dining room, we need two things: precise work light and a cozy glow above the table. For countertops where we cut and cook, discreet LED strips under the cabinets or strong ceiling spots will work best.

But above the table itself? This is where the magic has to happen. The lamp hanging above the table should be relatively low, creating an intimate, warm island of light. Honestly, shades made of smoked, colored glass look great. To prevent the light from hurting your eyes during dinner, screw in a frosted bulb or choose an opal lampshade. And an important note for minimalists: hanging lamps definitely win in a small kitchen. Standing floor or table lamps would only unnecessarily take up valuable space on countertops or the floor.

Carpet in the kitchen – a hit or a total failure?

You're probably thinking: "Carpet in the kitchen? It's about to get dirty!" And you're right, laying a fluffy rug right next to the stove is asking for trouble. Fat, tomato sauce, crumbs… well, we know what it looks like every day. But right under the dining room table? That's a completely different story.

A small, round jute rug or a woven, rectangular rug can add incredible warmth to the interior. Jute is very resistant, easy to shake, and its natural, beige color perfectly suits the minimalist atmosphere. However, if you definitely don't want any textiles on the floor, stick to clean tiles. You can create coziness in a different way. How about green plants in an elegant stand on legs? Or a metal, minimalist newspaper holder on the wall next to the table? You can put your favorite interior design magazines or recipe books there. It looks light, modern and very "homey".

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

Isn't the minimalist style too cool for the kitchen?
It doesn't have to be like this! The secret is in the textures. Just introduce natural materials - wood, jute, ceramics or green plants. Warm light with a color temperature of around 2700K can also completely change the atmosphere and make the interior very cozy.

Which table should you choose for a very small kitchen in a block of flats?
Round tables with one leg work best because they take up less space and are easier to walk around. If there is really little space, a countertop mounted directly to the wall, which can be folded after a meal, will be a perfect solution.
